ABOUT US
MUWAlumni.com is an unoffical community website for graduates, attendees and friends of
Mississippi University for Women. The "W" as it is fondly called
was established in 1884 and is the first state supported public college
for women in America.
In 1884 the school was called Industrial Institute and College (II&C) and then in 1920 became Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW). Rich in heritage and pride the W has 24 buildings on the campus listed on the National Register of Historic Places and more stories surrounding this history than one can imagine. In 1982 the United States Supreme Court ordered the university to admit a male student to the nursing program and without changing the name it now carries the tag - Mississippi University for Women...and smart men, too!
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
